The 18th International Conference on Soil Mechanics & Geotechnical Engineering in Paris

was a fantastic event and drew a record attendance of 2307 participants (plus companions) together at the Congress des Palais at Porte Maillot in Paris. Special lecturers were given by Suzanne Lacasse, Mark Randolph, Malcolm Bolton, Richard Jardine, Jean-Louis Briaud, Chuck Shackleford, and George Gazetas. The ISSMGE Board elected a new set of officers for a 4-year term including Roger Frank as the new president.  They also voted to hold the next international event (19 ICSMGE in Seoul 2017).  The large set of proceedings containing the keynote papers and technical proceedings was provided on a convenient 8-GB USB key.  A wonderful banquet was held at the Pavillon Dauphine. The TC 102 committee on In-Situ Testing held their formal meeting on Thursday afternoon, just before the conference formal closing.
