SDMT

The equipment for conducting seismic flat dilatometer tests (SDMT) is now commercially-available for use in practice. The original SDMT was introduced by Hepton (1988) and a simple pseudo-interval design promoted by Martin & Mayne (1998, 1999). Now, a true-interval SDMT is available from Marchetti Group and GPE Inc. that has geophones at two elevations and in an ingenious design transmits the digital wavelet signals up the same tube-wiring that the conventional DMT utilizes. The shear wave portion of the test is facilitated by use of an autoseis for producing repeatable signals and cross-correlation is employed to match the waves for time interval determinations.
