The Seismic Piezocone Test(SCPTU)with dissipation phases represents the optimal geostratigraphic tool available commercially as it provides five separate readings of soil behavior in a single soundings: qt = tip stress, fs = sleeve friction, ub = porewater pressures, t50 = time rate of dissipation, and Vs = downhole shear wave velocity.

Results of SCPTU taken next to the Wolf River in northeast Memphis Tennessee. Easternmost paleoliquefaction site believed evident from the large three earthquakes (Mw = 7.5 to 8.1) that occurred in New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ) from Dec. 1811, Jan. 1812, and Feb. 1812.
