Prof. Robert G. (Bob) Miller - Biography
|
|
After 14 years as marketing chief at Toyota Australia, 7 years as an account director at one of Australia's biggest ad agencies, 2 years in the real world of retail and 7 years with Ford Asia Pacific, Bob Miller brings a vast range of experience and lateral thinking to benefit his clients. During his tenure as General Manager-Marketing, Toyota Australia achieved outright market leadership for four consecutive years. Most Australians are familiar with his 20year-running Toyota theme "Oh, What a Feeling!". Millions laughed at the antics of Miller's whacky Camry Chicken as it failed year after year, to be the "chicken that crossed the road". He launched the Lexus franchise in 1991. In October 1996, Bob established his marketing consultancy, Australia Street Consulting Pty Limited in Sydney. Australia Street Consulting has successfully advised an ever growing number of ad agencies and national corporate marketing divisions on the best way to earn a return on their marketing investments. His monthly marketing column in respected ad industry magazine AdNews is consistently rated as their "most read" segment. Miller is a regular guest/keynote speaker at corporate, academic and professional functions. The trade and professional press regularly seek his views on marketing trends. He is a Director of the Spastic Centre of New South Wales and a member of the Board of Governors of the Heart Research Institute. The marketing industry has recognised Bob Miller's service many times. He is frequently listed as 'premier marketing executive' by trade publications. Marketing magazine declared Bob it's inaugural "Marketer of the Decade" in 1994 and, the Australian Marketing Institute awarded him its coveted Sir Charles McGrath Medal in 1993 for the "Marketing Executive of the Year". Bob wrote the Olympic Plan for Telstra Corpn and for Samsung Electronics Australia. Bob is an acknowledged agent of structural change. As three times President of AANA (Association of Australian National Advertisers) Bob was instrumental in changing forever the structure of advertising as a whole, when he led the charge to do away with the industry's long-standing ad agency accreditation system. In 2000, he advised the NSW Department of Education & Training on an historic change to the format of its senior secondary education system in a world-first change to the future of government/ automotive industry co-operation. Bob was appointed visiting Professor at Macquarie University, lecturing in Marketing Communications, in January 2000. He lectures third year undergraduates and also conducts the Masters in Marketing programme there. In November 2000, Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited appointed him Marketing Consultant to the President & CEO. This major consultancy role was completed in September 2002 and the client continues to strive for survival and success after many difficulties.
