CUGG (SC) - Cambridge University Geotechnical Group (Schofield Centre)


The Geotechnical Research Group of Cambridge University was formed more than 50 years ago and has over 50 staff and students engaged in research covering the whole spectrum of geotechnical and environmental engineering. Since its formation, the Group has produced over 150 PhDs and has been at the forefront of geotechnical engineering research world-wide.

The current interests of the Group are wide, encompassing construction processes, infrastructure, environmental engineering, earthquakes, and the fundamental mechanics of soils. The Group has extensive facilities for laboratory testing, centrifuge modelling, and numerical analysis, and a new building, the Schofield Centre, has recently been completed. R&D currently represents 80% of CUGG’s activities.

In 2001: employing 50, annual turnover: 2 MEuro.
